Job Description

​​Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking a Project Manager – Western Utilities located in Calgary, Edmonton, Alberta, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Vancouver, British Columbia and will require travel throughout the Province. The Project Manager will plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate utility projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget. Emphasis is placed on estimating, reporting and monitoring progress, planning and scheduling, and dealing with project change under the direction of the Division

• Review the design of assigned utilities construction projects; directs the preparation and/or review of plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts for assigned projects
• Assume responsibility for assigned services and activities related to the management of specific utility facilities construction projects within the Western Utilities Region including design, bid, construction, and related functions and professional contracts to ensure completion of projects within budgetary, regulatory, and time constraints
• Prepare and submit utility project budget estimates
• Plan and prepare construction schedules, milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
• Prepare contracts for review and approval and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Develop and implement quality control programs
• Develop and implement a site safety program
• Represent company on matters such as business services and union matters
• Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
• Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff
• Perform sales calls and visits to potential and existing accounts to generate business
• Review work, contracts, WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies
• Review daily production reports
• Complete weekly site safety inspections

Desired Skills & Experience

​The ideal candidate will be an electrical engineer, CET and/or Licensed Electrical Journeymen with demonstrated experience in the utility industry
• A University degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering construction management, construction technology or a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the electrical and utility industry is required
• Experience as a supervisor or field superintendent would be considered an asset
• Extensive experience in the utility industry may substitute for post-secondary education requirements  Calgary, Edmonton, Alberta, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Vancouver, British Columbia
• Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a utility facilities construction program
• Knowledge of principles and practices of construction management
