Job Description
  • Provide HS&E leadership, guidance, and support to assigned workplace(s)
  • Assist and support their Regional HSE Manager in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures, in accordance with Black & McDonald and regulatory requirements
  • Support initiatives undertaken by the National and Regional Safety Committees
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding health, safety and environment
  • Perform New-Hire Orientations as required and ensure quality and consistency of program. 
  • Coordinate and assist with training in WHMIS, Lock-out, Due Diligence, and other internally designed courses for new-hires, project co-coordinators, and managers.
  • Assist the Regional HSE Manager in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, in accordance with Black & McDonald and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections of job sites, facilities, and equipment for compliance with general and specific safety standards; report non-compliance and/or hazardous conditions, and recommend remedial action as appropriate.
  • Conduct incident investigations, audits of subcontractor orientations, loss control programs, and non-compliance issues, prepare reports and make recommendations for changes as necessary.
  • Assist with the coordination of WCB claims and follow-up.
  • Review internal training/safety database and liaison with Managers on upcoming training requirements for staff.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Post-secondary Diploma or Certificate in a discipline such as Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studies would be preferred.
  • 5 years of related work experience within the construction industry
  • CSO or NCSO, Construction Safety Officer/National Construction Safety Officer required with additional HSE studies considered.
  • Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) would be considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office, computer literacy (word, excel, power point)
  • Ability to facilitate programs and present to groups
  • Working knowledge of Provincial, and Local safety and environmental regulations and programs
  • Availability to travel
