Job Description

Position Summary

Black & McDonald Limited (Atlantic Region) is actively seeking an Electrical Project Manager for the Commercial and Institutional sectors of the construction market in the Dartmouth, NS office. This position is responsible for managing commercial projects including, safety compliance, people and resources, estimating, sales, project execution, profit/loss outcomes, and ultimately the project superintendents' and/or foreman's performance in their project budget, schedule, general performance, and profitability.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate commercial electrical projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget
  • Oversee and/or prepare construction project estimates, final bids, and proposal submissions
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Adherence to and implementation of health, safety, and environment policies and programs
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
  • Direct the purchase of supplies and materials
  • Oversee projects financial performance, i.e. accounts receivables, work in progress, and budgets
  • Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff
  • Perform sales calls and visits to potential and existing accounts to generate business
Desired Skills & Experience

  • Technical diploma, engineering degree, and/or equivalent trade experience and knowledge
  • Five years' experience in the commercial and institutional construction sector, including experience as a supervisor, project manager or estimator
  • Local market experience would be considered an asset
  • Proven skills in construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Contract management
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizing skills with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with design build projects would be considered an asset.
