Job Description

Position Summary

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for providing detailed estimates based upon conceptual documents as well as schematic, design development and construction documents.  Working in a team environment, the mechanical estimator also provides technical and administrative support to project operations with emphasis on mechanical estimating, reporting and monitoring progress, planning, scheduling, and dealing with project change.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares mechanical estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
  • Establishes and maintains the mechanical tendering process, sets up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures
  • Coordinates mechanical price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects
  • Participates in mechanical site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings with the Project Managers as required
  • Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Liaises, consults and communicates with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors
  • Participates in mechanical material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs as required
  • Coordinates various small mechanical projects

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years experience as mechanical estimator working on projects ranging from $100K to $10M
  • Demonstrated track record of project estimating in the Alberta commercial and light industrial markets
  • Completion of a college program in mechanical engineering or several years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical construction trade
  • Experience with Accubid Enterprise software, preferred, as well as working knowledge of Word processing, Excel spreadsheets and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Well organized and able to handle multiple assignments under a tight timeline
  • Personable and able to interact with customers directly
  • Ability to work in a team environment
