Job Description

Position Summary

Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking a Payroll Administrator to perform the tasks and responsibilities associated with processing hourly (unionized) payroll.  This role is based at our Markham location and reports directly to the Payroll Manager. The expected weekly hours of work are Monday to Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Applicants must be open to overtime when necessary.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely processing of weekly timesheets
  • Setting up new employees and handling terminations
  • Processing of payroll payments via direct deposit and/or cheques
  • Weekly timesheet review and approval
  • Issuance of ROEs using HRDC WebROE
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees
  • Annual preparation of T4s
  • Reconciliation as required
  • Payroll data entry and filing
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with the unions – excellent communication skills
  • Update burden tables and union payment reconciliation

Education & Skill Requirements

  • 1-2 years of payroll experience preferably with unionized payroll exposure
  • Completed PCP or is enrolled in a CPA program is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with processing payroll in-house using an ERP system
  • Above average skills with MS Excel is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a deadline driven environment
