Job Description

Position Summary
Black & McDonald Limited is looking for an entry level Estimator to join our Utility team in Ottawa.

We are looking for someone who is eager to learn & gain experience within the construction field and become a key member of our estimating team. This rewarding position involves working on a full-range of projects to analyze costs and prepare estimates. Duties range from simple cost analysis to definitive estimates in support of proposals, project controls and project change orders.

We will train the successful candidate by providing a mentor and a comprehensive training and development plan. We offer health and dental benefits and a company matching pension plan.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates of materials, labour and equipment for construction utility projects.
  • Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders.
  • Participate in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings with the Senior Estimator, Project Manager, and Purchasing as required.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors
  • Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.

  • Self-motivated individual able to work within deadlines.
  • College Diploma or University Degree
  • Candidates must be proficient in using MS applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in BlueBeam or Adobe
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
