Summary of Position

The FMO Supervisor/Plumber will supervise and coordinate the activities of both employees and subcontractors in activities related to the maintenance and repair of facilities managed by the Facilities, Maintenance and Operations (FMO) Division. They will use their experience and technical skills to meet client requirements. Part of their duties will be to provide preventive maintenance inspections on heating, mechanical, electrical and other equipment while completing plumbing and any other related maintenance and repairs within their ability. The FMO Supervisor/Plumber must execute all tasks safely in accordance with local and federal regulations with minimal oversight; they must also ensure that all Black & McDonald workers and subcontractors adhere to identical standards. The successful applicant should be comfortable with being mobile as travel to multiple facilities is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise maintenance and construction activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and the specific deliverables
  • Plan and execute work in accordance with Black & McDonald corporate safety policy and provincial regulations
  • Perform other facility related construction or repairs at the request of the Project Manager
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other subcontractors or departments
  • Requisition of materials and supplies
  • Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity
  • Arrange appropriate for training of workers
  • Review accuracy of work order content prior to invoicing
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring's and promotions
  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed
  • Prepare work progress reports and safety related reports as requested by Black & McDonald Project Manager
  • Must also supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of all staff and contractors
  • Maintain a safe and respectful working environment

Desired Skills & Experience

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Must be able to pass Federal Security Clearance to work on Military facilities
  • Completion of secondary school required
  • Journeyman/women trade certification (Red Seal) is required
  • Must have basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Several years' experience as a qualified tradesperson is required
  • Several years' relevant field experience is recommended
  • Ability to follow instructions, both written and verbal
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks on a regular basis (lifting/moving heavy equipment/materials)
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools
  • Strong skills in supervision, negotiation, and problem solving
  • Proven planning and scheduling skills
  • Formal training in supervisory responsibilities
  • Must have a clean BC driver's abstract and hold a valid BC driver's licence
