Position Summary

Reporting to the Industrial Project Manager, the E&I Coordinator/Estimator will work as part of a team and/or as the team lead on various estimate classes. Must be able to work independently to produce estimates of the highest quality.  Must be able to lead and/or develop estimates with a focus towards E & I construction to a level of detail to allow execution of the project. The successful candidate will reside at our Western Industrial Region office located in Calgary, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop cost data as well as detailed and factored construction estimates for proposals or contract negotiations
  • Prepare and present estimate plans, estimate schedules, man-hour budgets
  • Lead various estimate planning, verification and review meetings
  • Interpret documentation, specifications, design drawings to determine material costs and quantities
  • Perform quantity estimates using parameters for all commodities within discipline or other specialty from engineering and construction information
  • Understand the differences between unit rate estimating and lump sum estimating and tailor the output. 
  • Ability to handle multiple complex priorities
  • Assemble and compile estimate data for specific budget categories
  • Perform performance monitoring and control functions for specific applications
  • Assist in developing specific code of accounts
  • Assist in investigating requirements for estimating and/or cost control
  • Collect and classify cost engineering data as directed for benchmarking
  • Perform routine data analysis and development as directed
  • Collect and provide data entry to historical reporting
  • Preform adhoc work as needed

Desired Skills & Experience

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Engineering, Technology or Construction based degree, diploma or certificate - preferably Electrical
  • 3-4 years construction estimating or drafting experience with a focus on Electrical and Instrumentation would be an asset
  • Experience in bidding a wide range of projects: $500k to $250 Million
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering and vendor specifications and drawings
  • Excellent verbal communications skills are required
  • Strong technical writing skills are required
  • A good understanding of all the construction trades and how they are interdependent of each other to strategize and sequence the work activities in a complex / fast moving construction environment
  • Focused on details, highly organized and works effectively with shifting priorities and rapid change
  • Accubid Enterprise experience an asset.  Familiarity with other estimating programs is advantageous
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Self-motivated and a hard worker who works well in a team environment
