Job Description

The Building Operator will maintain safe conditions inside and outside of the facilities, performing minor plumbing and electrical repairs, as well as using computerized building management systems.  They will conduct mechanical inspection and maintenance of equipment using FMO strategies to ensure continuing operation. The Building Operator uses experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to meet the service requirements required by contract obligations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Project Manager and the team, plan and execute responsive and planned maintenance in accordance with our facility management systems
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
  • Perform basic inspections on various building systems (i.e. emergency generator, fire alarms, security access and CCTV systems).
  • Respond to the Housing Managers' requests and work with the Black & McDonald Call Center, reporting back with response and rectification times
  • Perform light duties such as cleaning, painting, HVAC, Plumbing, and other Mechanical duties, supervising sub-contractor technicians, mechanics, etc.
  • Build, maintain and promote good customer and supplier/vendor relationships
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs.
  • Assist in purchase of building materials.
  • Review work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies.
  • Abide by all Corporate Health & Safety regulations and policies

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Available for Emergency Out of Hours Duties
  • Available to travel within the Lower Mainland
  • Clean Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Knowledge in building automation, mechanical, electrical, and fire life systems is an asset
  • Experience working within the DTES or social housing experience is an asset but not required
  • Class 5/4 Power Engineering Certification is an asset but not required
