Position Summary:

We are currently recruiting for an Associate Business Development Representative in the Newfoundland Region. This is a junior level sales opportunity for someone who desires to become a sales professional.  Black & McDonald will train, coach and mentor the appropriate candidate to ensure long term success in new business development. Training and assistance will be provided in uncovering needs, providing solutions and entering into service agreements with new clients. Candidate will be assigned a geographical or vertical market and will be responsible for prospecting potential new clients in the assigned market.  While working in a team setting he/she will be responsible for securing HVAC service agreements and using technical, organizational and service knowledge to assist customers in developing the best possible solution.

 Duties & Responsibilities

  • Researching, cold calling and setting up meetings with potential clients
  • Utilize proven sales methods to identify and solicit potential clients for future service work
  • Meet with and develop impressionable relationships with potential clients to successfully understand their needs and specific requirements
  • Assess potential client needs and resources and recommend the appropriate solution
  • Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of internal staff and customers
  • Work with Project Representative and provide input where non contractual HVAC related services must be tailored to suit clients' needs
  • Develop reports and proposals as part of sales presentation to potential clients
  • Prepare sales contracts under the direction of the Department Manager
  • Price the agreement according to the company pricing standards
  • Prepare start-up documents for set up and attend start up meetings with new clients
  • Continue personal professional development
  • Participate in department planning meetings as necessary
  • Keep internal software and database up to date with sales activities


Desired Skills & Experience


  • This position requires determination and ambition as prospecting and cold calling will represent a significant amount of your daily effort
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrable communication skills either through work experience and/or education and would like to learn a more entrepreneurial role, multiple languages is considered an asset
  • Past sales experience would be considered an asset but not a pre-requisite
  • Experience with HVAC service and or equipment would be considered an asset but not a pre-requisite
  • Business or Marketing education would be considered an asset but not a pre-requisite
  • 1-3 years' experience in sales and preparing proposals or contracts
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Availability to travel from time to time as required
  • Competency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Competency in a web based sales tracking software such as Sales Force
